Drums Not Drugs Celebrates at Long Lane in Middletown, CT

Youth Drummer laces a "djembe" drum Drumming Full Circle celebrates at Long Lane in Middletown , CT completing six weeks of instruction. Led by "AJALI" a Caribbean drumming/performance group, the girls developed a real bond and created a surprise performance for family members and DCF staff.

Thirty girls really "floored the audience", said Kate Henry, program supervisor at Briggs. Students displayed remarkable talent and composure in performing in front of the audience. After Group A and B did their separate pieces, they all got on stage to take a final bow and then began playing together and performing spontaneously. The girls then welcomed their instructors to join in the drum/dance piece. All performers received an overwhelmingly positive feedback from staff and family.

Youth drummers also exhibited their talents at a CT Youth Funders Conference at the Waters Edge Resort and Conference facility in Westbrook , CT. The group performed for community members and heads of youth organizations, including the Commissioner of DCF, Kristine Regaglia.
